Minutes of the Alpaca Research Foundation Meeting
May 24, 2010
Present: Abe Rosenbloom, Karen Baum, Allan Dewald, Pat Long,
Michelle Ing, Patricia Craven and Lisa Williamson were present. The meeting was
called to order at 6:10pm PST.
President’s report: No new information at this time.
April Minutes: Allan moved to approve, Pat seconded,
unanimously approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Please see the treasurer’s report for full
details. There were a number of nice donations this past month. Pat moved to
discontinue using the PO Box in Kalispell, Montana. Only two letters were
received through the POB this past year. The yearly fee for the POB is $70.
Allan moved to approve, Karen seconded, unanimously approved.
Development Committee Report: The winner of the Suri Herdsire
ARF Stud raffle (LCA Accoyo Rico, donated by owners Randy and Beth Brealey) was
James & Lorrie McGrew of Windy Plains Alpacas. The winner of the Huacaya
Herdsire ARF Stud raffle (Caligula’s Accoyo Poseidon, donated by owners Kern &
Rhonda Deschner, John & Margaret Cokely, and Marilyn Nishitani) was Terri Phipps
and David Schieferstein of Fireweed Farm Alpacas.
MAF & LMRG Update: Allan says that the SAB scores are in and LMRG met last
Friday evening. Julie Jarvinen will continue on in her involvement with LMRG.
Allan made a motion for ARF to reimburse ILR $25 for a portion of the LMRG
teleconference meetings.
Meeting the Challenges of Genetic Improvement: Patricia reports that they are
meeting with Ahmed Tibary this next Thursday who is going to be in contact with
potential speakers and willing to help organize the reproductive aspect of the
conference. Greg Adams has also been contacted and is interested in
participation and presenting results of his recent study which is in the process
of review for publication. The committee for the conference is also waiting on
whether funding is possible from the State of Pennsylvania.
New Business: Five ARF proposals were reviewed.
Meeting ended 7:15pm PST. Abe moved to adjourn, Karen and Allan seconded.
Next meeting is scheduled for June 22, 2010 at 6pm PST.
